Distance Per Stroke and Related Pursuits

How important is it to decrease your stroke count?

By Gary Hall Sr.
The Race Club
There is much confusion surrounding the terms DPS (distance per stroke), SPL (Strokes per length or stroke count) and Stroke Rate (number of arm strokes taken per minute) and their relative importance. In particular, there are many coaches today that emphasize one or more of these as being very desirable, when they may not always be.
None of them necessarily have anything to do with efficiency or speed.

ZILA on the loose!...Call Matthew Broderick

Team ZILA is amping up for the Ozark SC Yards Championship!

(Over the top? I think not!)

Jim and Keri Cedor, Jim Donahue, Rachel Ward, and Lea Compton are stepping into competition this weekend to prove they are champions. Sure, it would be more efficient if they just gave them the medals. Sure, it would be easier if everyone saw the level of awesomeness this team can lay down at the swim meet and just give up. Yes that would be easy....but that's not why they are swimming. They swim because it's tough, because giving 110% hurts... because they are TEAM ZILA! Good luck and GO GET'EM!

Swimming...There's an App For That

Do you ever think to yourself.... 'Self, if I could only see what the heck they are talking about I could get it right!'. Well here's something that might help. Swim Smooth has a 3D view of the perfect swim stroke. You can view it from every angle and even download it for use at the pool. I find it very helpful considering even when you are watching someone with good form in the pool you can never fully see what is going on because of all that darn water in the pool.
There's nothing like watching a computer generated dummy swim with better technique than we could ever hope for. Enjoy.

Little Lubinski

Abby Lubinski qualifies for State!!!!

Abby summoned her inner ZILA and stomped the competition.  Her epic performance was part of a relay during the Mizzou District meet.  We at Team Zila are proud of her dedication to swimming and can't wait for her to show what she can do at state.

More details to come.
